Footnotes
One the most iconic images by Ponting, showing the Terra Nova besides the ice at Cape Evans. Scott had discovered the Cape during his Discovery expedition of 1901-4, and on his return in 1910 built the expedition hut there.
The Fine Art Society mounted the first public exhibition of Ponting's photographs at their gallery in New Bond Street, London on 4 December 1913, displaying 146 images, and generating some 680 orders.
