A Selection of Jewels from the Collection of Dame Joan Collins
Lots 33 to 40 come from the collection of award-winning stage, film and television actress, Dame Joan Collins. Having made her stage debut at the age of nine and her first British film by the age of seventeen, a career in Hollywood soon followed and Dame Joan was signed under contract to 20th Century Fox. During her career, Dame Joan has worked with some of Hollywood's greatest legends including, Bette Davis, Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly, Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Paul Newman, and Shirley MacLaine. She has also guest starred in some of the world's most popular TV series on both side of the Atlantic, including, Batman, Star Trek, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Starsky & Hutch, Mission Impossible, The Love Boat, Monte Carlo, Pacific Palisades, Roseanne, Will & Grace, Footballers Wives, Hotel Babylon, Benidorm, Miss Marple, The Royals and American Horror Story.
Dame Joan's compelling portrayal of Alexis Carrington Colby in the hit television series, Dynasty, is arguably her most celebrated role, winning her a Golden Globe for Best Actress (among dozens of other accolades) and cementing her as a cultural icon. She is widely credited for making the show an international success. During the excess of the 1980s, viewers around the world tuned in weekly to witness the elaborate schemes and legendary showdowns that Alexis orchestrated while looking like a million dollars in every scene. The fashion alone was a big draw for viewers and Dame Joan had a significant input in her character's glamorous wardrobe.
Joan is also an accomplished producer, an author of nineteen books and a regular contributor to several UK and US publications. She was awarded an OBE for her services to the arts in 1997 and in 2015, she was made a DBE for her lifetime contribution to charitable causes. She remains passionately committed to many charitable organisations with a particular focus on women, children, and the family unit. Joan has three children, Tara, Alexander, and Katy. In 2002, she married the theatrical manager, Percy Gibson and they split their time between London, Los Angeles, and the South of France. Always immaculately dressed, the jewels presented here, reflect Dame Joan's eye for exceptional craftsmanship, individuality and joy of colour.
