Louis Wiese (1852-1923), son of Jules Wiese (b.1818), took over his father's workshop in 1880. Described by Vever as "an exceptionally modest and truly talented artist", Louis sought to maintain his father's legacy and exemplary reputation for fine craftsmanship. Louis continued working in the same tradition, exploring familiar Neo-Renaissance and Gothic themes, occasionally appropriating his father's designs. He also looked to religion and archaeology for inspiration, producing beautifully crafted goldwork and introducing enamel and gemstones to add colour and further dimension to his work.
Jewels by Wièse can be found in major museums worldwide including the British Museum and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
