Demonstrating the iconic and vibrant style of Ernie Barnes, an artist finally receiving long overdue recognition, the present lot is a striking example of his depiction of the strength of women. Painted while Barnes lived in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, this long-limbed, muscled figure walks confidently with her held high. The soft colors and dynamic rendering of the woman's dress imbue the piece with a sense of presence, a quintessential characteristic of the artist's mature style.
